Established 1939
The Beltsville Plant Materials Center primarily focuses on national
initiatives and provides coordination and assistance for Plant Materials work
across all 50 states. Beyond national duties, the Center has developed plants
and technology to help conserve natural resources in the Mid-Atlantic region.
The Center has released new varieties of bermuda grass and black locust, and has
researched and published information on growing wildflowers and native grasses
in the region, and on sand dune restoration.
