Vegetative Management Program Foreman (PDF; 53 KB) Welcome!Gary Rea will join the Texas NRCS Ecological Sciences Staff as the new Manager of the James E. “Bud” Smith Plant Materials Center in Knox City, TX. Gary has a PhD in Crop Science from Oklahoma State University and has worked in the private industry as a Plant Breeder and Director of Research. As a State of Texas Registered Plant Breeder, Gary brings a wealth of knowledge to our Agency and the Plant Materials program. Gary will begin working at the PMC on October 12, 2008. Eric Eldridge has been selected as the new Manager of the Great Basin Plant Materials Center Manager in Fallon, Nevada. Eric comes from Oregon where he has worked for Oregon State University through their Extension program on agricultural crops and native plants. He has extensive knowledge and working experience in demonstration plant trials. He also has published over 100 papers coverings his findings. Eric’s hands-on experience with plant trials and his educational background will be a nice fit for the PMC. Eric will begin working at the PMC on August 31, 2008. Pamela Scheinost has been selected as the new Soil Conservationist
at the Pullman Plant Materials Center in Pullman, Washington. Pamela
is originally from Nebraska, and received her B.S. degree in Environmental
Studies with an emphasis in Natural Resources from the University of Nebraska at
Lincoln. She moved to Washington state and obtained her M.S. degree in Crop
Science at Washington State University. Pamela's graduate research focused on
evaluating Thinopyrum x annual wheat hybrids and characterization of wild
Triticeae species for use in a perennial wheat breeding program. Pamela then
joined the Peace Corps, and served as an environment volunteer in Tanzania, East
Africa. In a rural village, Pamela worked with subsistence farmers to implement
new vegetable gardening and agroforestry techniques, improve chicken breeds and
care, enhance bee-keeping practices and develop small-animal husbandry
businesses. Pamela also taught English, health, nutrition, and HIV/AIDs
awareness and prevention. Soon after returning to the U.S., Pamela began working
for the NRCS in Idaho as a Soil Conservationist. She worked at the Caldwell, ID
and Nezperce, ID field offices for a total of 3 ˝ years prior to being hired on
at the Pullman PMC. Pamela began at the Pullman PMC on May 11, 2008
